Evolution of the M-65 Jacket

1940's
The US Army introduced the M-43 Field Jacket in 1943. Did you know that the year corresponds to the style of jacket? The M-43 Jacket was introduced in WWII with a first-of-its-kind layering principle. It was built for warmth.

1950's
In 1951, the jacket progressed from the M-43 to the M-51. The M-51 featured "notable attributes (that) included a 9 oz, water-resistant, windproof cotton sateen, snap fasteners instead of buttons or zippers, button cuffs, a pointed collar, and had a separate hood that could be attached."

1960's
In 1965, the US Army released the M-65 Field Jacket because they knew the Vietnam climate demanded an upgraded jacket from the 1950's. The most notable design difference was the concealed hood. Contracted with the Dept. of Defense, Alpha Industries designed the iconic jackets in Knoxville, TN. Their practical design has survived for decades.
